Garden parties are magical in themselves but arranging edible flowers and getting to take them home and next level, even for the amateur gardener. 🌸Why Edible Flower Arrangements?🌸

Edible flowers bring a unique in many ways. I don’t just admire them but I use them in my kitchen and food photography for the blog. When a simple recipe has colors of green and white, I can add in flower petals (such as yellow petals) to add a pop of color and if you know anything about the color wheel, this would be a complimentary color to the overall dish.

🌱💐What You’ll Need:

Creating your own edible flower pot is simple and customizable. Here’s a basic list to get you started:

  • Medium sized pots or decorative containers with a drainage hole
  • Organic potting soil
  • Edible flowers (such as pansies, nasturtiums, violets, marigolds, lavender, chamomile, mini sunflowers, or dahlias). I ended up growing some of these from seeds (Baker Creek Seed Company) but I recommend trying to source them organically if you can.
  • Fresh herbs (mint, basil, thyme, or rosemary work beautifully)
  • Gardening gloves and a small shovel
  • Optional: moss, decorative stones, or twine for styling

🌿 Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prep Your Pots
Ensure your pots have proper drainage. If they do not, use a drill to create drainage holes. Sometimes plastic pots come with drainage holes that need to be punched out with a screw driver, just take a look on the bottom before purchasing the pots.

2. Add Your Base
Fill the pot almost completely with soil, leaving about 3-4 inches from the top. Prepare a bucket or additional pot of extra soil that can be used to add in if needed at the end and place it nearby.

3. Plant Your Blooms
Arrange your edible flowers and herbs just as you would a floral centerpiece. Fill in any gaps between the plants with additional soil.

4. Style It Up
Top with moss or decorative elements such as garden signs or decorated rocks.

5. Water Lightly
Keep plants fresh with a light watering before taking home. Guests can do a deep watering when they bring the potted arrangements home. Instruct your guests to place the pot in a sunny spot and water daily.
