Ingredients To Make The Best Lavender Simple Syrup
Water – Always use filtered water. You don’t want minerals or all the other junk in the water when making a syrup. Filtered water will give you the best results possible.
Sugar – Granulated sugar, or white sugar, is the most common sugar used for simple syrups. Cane sugar is another great alternative. A lot of times you can buy cane sugar as organic and in the bulk section of the grocer (if they have a bulk section). I’ve tested a recipe with cane sugar and the difference was near to none.
I would not recommend brown sugar or coconut sugar, it will change the color of the syrup significantly! Any other sweeteners I cannot recommend because I have not yet tried them.
Lavender – Dried lavender flowers can be found in a lot of grocery stores. I’ve also seen them sold in World Market. I went with these Organic Dried Lavender Flowers from Amazon. This is not an affiliate link. These were reasonably priced online and were delivered to my door without having to go hunting for lavender.
I’ve read from people who have attempted to make lavender simple syrup that they’ve used fresh lavender from the garden and the results were wonderful. They took a few snippets of the lavender flower and substituted it for the dried lavender. I have not attempted this yet so I cannot say whether it has worked for me or not.
Storing Lavender Simple Syrup
Keep the syrup in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to one month. If you decide to keep it in a syrup dispenser on the countertop, it stays fresh for about a week.
I stored my syrup in these pretty Bitters Bottles from Amazon with these Gold Spouts.
