Ingredients

For The Broccoli And Beef

  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sesame seed oil
  • 1 head broccoli, cut into florets
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water
  • scallions or green onions, for garnish
  • sesame seeds, for garnish

For The Sauce

  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tsp chili paste (or red chili flakes, for a little heat)
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, marinate the beef with soy sauce and rice vinegar for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, make the sauce.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the sauce ingredients until well combined, set aside.
  • Heat sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Cook beef, about 2 minutes on each side, until cooked through. Work in batches so they don’t overlap one another. Set aside.
  • Add broccoli florets and sauce into the same skillet, bring to a boil. Cover with lid and simmer for 2 minutes.
  • Add cornstarch mixture to the pan. Continue cooking for 1-2 more minutes until sauce thickens. Transfer beef back to the skillet and stir until beef is coated and warmed through, about 1 minute. Garnish with scallions and sesame seeds. Serve over a bed of rice.

Notes

Steak can be marinated from 10 minutes to 1 hour.
