Turkey Cheddar Bacon Melt

Turkey Cheddar Bacon Melt

This turkey cheddar bacon melt is not your basic sandwich. It has melted cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, slices of turkey, and sweet caramelized onions. All baked on a soft ciabatta loaf.

Ingredients

  • 6 slices bacon
  • 2 tbsp butter, unsalted
  • 1 yellow onion, sliced
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 large ciabatta loaf, cut in half, lengthwise
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 8 oz deli turkey, sliced
  • 6 slices mild cheddar cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lay bacon out evenly spread out on baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes, until crisp.
  • Turn oven heat to 400 degrees F.
  • Melt butter in skillet over medium/low heat. Add sliced onion and sauté for 5 minutes. Add balsamic vinegar and brown sugar and continue to sauté for 5 more minutes.
  • Place ciabatta on a parchment lined baking sheet, sliced portion facing up. Brush top and bottom with olive oil. Spread out caramelized onions on bottom portion of the sliced ciabatta. Add sliced turkey over the onions, then bacon slices. Place 3 slices of cheddar over the bacon and 3 slices of cheddar over the other ciabatta half.
  • Bake for 10 minutes, or until cheese is melted. To assemble, place the top portion of the bread on top of the bottom portion (with all the ingredients.) Slice and serve.

Notes

Substitute the ciabatta loaf with your favorite loaf of bread. A few options are french, sour dough, or Italian loafs, which are very common. Ciabatta happens to be one of my favorite for warm sandwiches.
