Ingredient Notes:

– Boneless, skinless chicken thighs: Opting for thighs instead of breasts ensures a tender and juicy result, as they are more forgiving in the slow cooker.

– Honey: Honey brings a rich and natural sweetness that complements the other ingredients.

– Soy sauce: A regular or low-sodium soy sauce will work in this case. Once the chicken is done, season with additional salt as needed. If you’d like to make this dish gluten-free, opt for a GF soy sauce or replace with coconut aminos in equal ratio.

– Hoisin sauce: Hoisin sauce is a thick, dark, flavorful sauce that is commonly used as a dipping sauce, stir fry sauce, glazing meats, as a marinade, in soups, and noodles.

– Garlic: Freshly minced garlic cloves are the key ingredient that infuses the dish with irresistible flavor.

– Spices: Feel free to add your personal touch with spices like ground black pepper, crushed red pepper flakes, or even a bit of smoked paprika for a smoky kick.

– Cornstarch: Cornstarch is used along with a splash of water and added at the end to the Crock-Pot™ to thicken up the sauce. Another wonderful option would be to use arrowroot powder in the same/or about the same ratio.

FAQs:

1. Can I use chicken breasts instead of thighs?

Although chicken breasts could be an option, they tend to dry out more easily in slow cookers. For the juiciest and most flavorful result, I highly recommend using boneless, skinless chicken thighs.

2. Can I adjust the sweetness of the dish?

Absolutely! Feel free to adjust the amount of honey used to suit your taste preferences. If you prefer a sweeter dish, add a bit more honey, and if you prefer a milder sweetness, reduce the amount accordingly.

3. Can I make this recipe ahead of time?

Certainly! This recipe is perfect for meal prep. The chicken can sit in the fridge in the honey garlic sauce for up to two days before being cooked in the Crock-Pot™. Or simply cook the chicken as directed, let it cool, then refrigerate it in an airtight container for up to 3 days. When ready to eat, reheat it gently in the microwave or oven.
