This recipe takes succulent pieces of salmon and pairs them with flavorful olives, creating a delightful combination that will leave your taste buds begging for more. Whether you’re hosting a summertime soirée or simply want to elevate your weeknight grilling game, these kebabs are sure to impress.
Why You’ll Love These Salmon Kebabs:
1. Bursting with Fresh Flavors: Grilling salmon brings out its natural smokiness, which perfectly complements the slightly briny and tangy essence of olives. The combination of these two ingredients results in a burst of flavors that will transport you to paradise.
2. Health Benefits: Not only is salmon a delicious choice, but it is also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, promoting heart health and reducing inflammation. Olives, on the other hand, offer antioxidants and healthy fats. Indulging in these kebabs will not only satisfy your taste buds but also provide nourishment for your body.
Ingredient Notes:
Salmon – Choose fresh, high-quality salmon fillets devoid of any fishy smell or discoloration. Opt for wild-caught salmon if possible, as it offers a richer flavor and higher nutrient content.
Olives – pick up Pearls mild, buttery Simply Green Olives. They’re mild, buttery olives that pair perfectly with salmon and are sturdy enough to be grilled.
Onions – Sweet onions are beautifully caramelized when they hit the grill. Make sure you don’t leave them out!
Mint Basil Vinaigrette – For an added burst of freshness, a drizzle of mint basil vinaigrette is the chef’s kiss for these kebabs. It’s made of olive oil, lemon juice, sweet honey, dijon mustard, garlic, and lots of fresh basil and mint.
How to Make These Grilled Salmon Kebabs:
Preparing these grilled salmon and olive kebabs is a breeze and won’t require much of your precious summer time.
Start by whisking together the ingredients for the mint basil vinaigrette, whisk together olive oil, lemon juice, honey, dijon mustard, garlic, basil, mint, salt, and pepper in a small bowl and set it aside.
Cut the salmon fillets into bite-sized cubes, ensuring they are relatively uniform for even cooking.
Toss the salmon with olive oil, dried oregano, cumin, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Thread the salmon, olives, and onion onto the skewers. Leave about 1-2 mm of space between each addition of salmon, olive, and onion, this will help cook the ingredients fairly quickly and evenly.
Preheat the grill to medium heat and spray or brush the grill grates well with oil.
Cook the kebabs for about 8-10 minutes, turning the kebobs occasionally, until the salmon is cooked through and the onions are lightly charred. Remove from the grill and drizzle with the mint basil vinaigrette. Serve immediately and savor the tantalizing taste of summer.
Recipe FAQ’s:
1. Can I use frozen salmon for this recipe?
Definitely! Just make sure to thaw the frozen salmon completely before marinating and cooking. This will ensure even cooking and better flavor absorption.
2. Can I grill these kebabs indoors?
If you don’t have access to an outdoor grill, you can use an indoor grill pan or even a stovetop grill pan to achieve those beautiful grill marks and smoky flavors. Just preheat the grill pan over medium-high heat and follow the recipe as instructed.
3. Can I substitute the vegetables?
Certainly! Feel free to customize the kebabs with your favorite vegetables or whatever you have on hand. Zucchini, red onion, or even chunks of pineapple make wonderful additions and introduce new dimensions of taste.
4. Can I make these kebabs ahead of time?
While it’s best to enjoy these kebabs fresh from the grill, you can prepare the marinade and thread the salmon and olives onto the skewers in advance. Simply grill them when you’re ready to serve.
5. How can I prevent the kebabs from sticking to the grill?
To ensure your kebabs don’t stick to the grill, make sure to properly oil the grates before placing the skewers on them. Additionally, avoid flipping the kebabs too soon. Let them cook for a couple of minutes on each side, and they will naturally release from the grill grates.
6. Can I use other types of fish for this recipe?
Absolutely! While salmon works wonderfully, you can also use other firm and flaky fish like tuna or halibut.
