Chocolate Sea Salt Frozen Banana Bites

Ripe, sliced bananas are coated in melted chocolate and sprinkled with sea salt. This is what a healthy dessert snack is all about. (Jump to Recipe)

If you’re following me on Instagram, I’ve posted a few stories last Saturday of our trip to Napa and Sonoma. Val and I mainly visited for the food this time.

First we had brunch at Napa General Store Cafe. It’s a super cozy, rustic cafe towards the back of the main store that has a riverfront patio (that’s the only place I recommend sitting).

The second location we ate at was Della Santina’s in Sonoma. This Italian restaurant was recommended to me by someone I recently met who’s lived in Sonoma for 15 years! I had to try it to see what the rave was about. This place is family-run and has a beautiful, greenery-filled courtyard with an authentic Italian setting. Their cuisine and recipes are inspired from the charming town of Lucca, Italy. Not to mention, Della Santina’s received the 2016 Sonoma Tribune People’s Choice Award for the best Italian food in Sonoma! I think that should be enough to win you over.

The last place we visited was Domaine Carneros. Here’s a photo below. I thought this photo should convince you to visit this winery as well. You must make a reservation in advance, otherwise they get booked quick!

Now, these Chocolate Sea Salt Frozen Banana Bites is what we’re currently snacking on right now. I could say, these help with the 100+ degree weather we’re experiencing in Sacramento. (Ugh)!

Chocolate Sea Salt Frozen Banana Bites

I first start off with slicing 3 small, ripe bananas into about a quarter or 1 inch width/diameter (you can use 2 large bananas instead of 3 small ones). Heat 2 tbsp of coconut oil in a small saucepan on low heat.

Add 1 cup of roughly chopped dark chocolate and mix with a spoon continually as it melts so it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan. After about 3 minutes of mixing, I remove it from the heat and let the chocolate melt completely (about 2 minutes or so).

Now the bananas are ready for coating. Using a toothpick, pick up a sliced piece of banana and dip in chocolate until it’s fully covered in chocolate. Remove with the toothpick and carefully place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat this process with the rest of the banana slices. Sprinkle with just a pinch of Maldon or course sea salt. Place the baking sheet into the freezer for 2 hours. Once these banana bites are completely frozen, you may remove them and eat them right away (tempting to eat all of them) or store them in a large ziplock bag in the freezer for up to a month. Here’s to celebrating Sacramento weather and all things summer!
