Chocolate Dream Overnight Oats
Not your basic oats! These overnight oats are chocolaty, creamy, and topped with bananas, almonds, honey, and seeds. Perfect for busy mornings because they are made the night before. ( Jump to Recipe)
I’ve been really digging overnight oats and it’s been a thing for a while now. But, I’ve never shared a recipe before so I think it’s about time! My sister, Ang, introduced me to it years ago. Since then, my breakfast game has never been the same!
The overnight oats method works like this. No cooking required, just soaking them overnight in milk. The best part are the toppings, they are totally customizable!
When I started making overnight oats, I would get out the individual containers for almond milk, oats, chia seeds, flax meal, and hemp seeds. I thought to myself, I wish they just sold one bag of these seeds all combined… and they didn’t. So, I fixed that problem myself by combining all three of those bags of seeds.
This Plant-Based Protein Seed Mix is one of the KEY ingredients I put into my overnight oats EVERY DAY. Not only that, but I sprinkle it into my green salads, over my buddha bowls, etc. There really is no rule of how you can use this protein seed mix.
Ingredients to make this overnight oats:
Oats: Rolled oats work best in my hands but feel free to use quick oats too. I would not recommend any other oats, I’ve tried steel cut oats and it was a mess!
Yogurt: Greek yogurt is king! I love all things vanilla including vanilla Greek yogurt. It adds a bit of sweetness without having some sort of berry or pistachio flavoring. Regular yogurt will work just as well. To make this recipe vegan, use vegan yogurt.
Plant-Based Protein Seed Mix: (equal parts hemp, flax, and chia) for a boost of plant protein. You may also substitute all three of these seeds for one teaspoon of chia seeds.
Chocolate milk: Use your favorite brand or kind of chocolate milk. Mine is the Pacific Foods Hazelnut one. If you haven’t tried this one yet, I’d highly recommend! (Photo below)
Toppings: Sliced almonds, sliced banana, and honey (or your favorite sweetener). You can get really creative with the add-in. Think chocolate dessert.
To assemble these overnight oats:
Pick a mason jar or an air-tight container. Add rolled oats, milk of choice, Greek yogurt, and protein seed mix. Close the mason jar and shake it up. Refrigerate overnight or at least 6 hours, give it the necessary time to soak in the liquid. The next morning, place sliced almonds, sliced bananas, and drizzle with honey or your choice of sweetener.
To prepare this chocolate dream overnight oats recipe for the week, multiply this recipe by 4 for 4 servings. These oats will stay fresh in your refrigerator for up to 4 days.
These overnight oats can be warmed up in the microwave for 30-45 seconds and eaten warm, if that is your preference.
